McHappy Day

McDonald’s and RMHC Latvija launch the “McHappy Day” campaign featuring the cuddly alpaca Mimi to support children in Latvia’s regions

From 3rd to 30th November, McDonald’s restaurants across Latvia will host this year’s second “McHappy Day” charity campaign in support of “Ronald McDonald House Charities Latvija” (RMHC Latvija). The campaign aims to raise funds for the purchase of a new mobile clinic for the Children’s Care Mobile Program.

This initiative will help ensure that children throughout Latvia — especially those living in remote areas — can receive free, high-quality medical consultations closer to their homes.

This autumn, the campaign’s central symbol is the plush alpaca Mimi – a messenger of warmth and kindness, encouraging everyone to get involved and share the joy of giving.

With a €13 donation, visitors to McDonald’s restaurants can receive their own Mimi alpaca, contributing directly to improving children’s access to healthcare across Latvia’s regions.

The importance of the Children’s Care Mobile Program:

For 15 years, the Children’s Care Mobile Program, maintained by “RMHC Latvija”, has been traveling throughout Latvia to provide free medical consultations for children under the age of 18.

The mobile clinic’s team includes 11 medical specialists in fields such as ophthalmology, optometry, paediatric neurology, paediatric endocrinology, allergology, rehabilitation, and more.

Each week, the mobile clinic makes three to four trips to different parts of Latvia, where two to three doctors together consult up to 75 children per visit. Over the course of a year, the program provides more than 5,200 free medical consultations across the country.

However, after many years of service, the existing mobile clinic has become outdated. To continue providing modern, high-quality, and safe healthcare for children, a new vehicle equipped with advanced diagnostic technology is needed.

The total cost of the new mobile clinic is estimated at around €500,000.

“Over the years, our Children’s Care Mobile Program has helped thousands of families throughout Latvia. To continue our work and expand the support we provide, it is essential to renew our equipment and technology. The new mobile clinic will allow children to receive professional medical help closer to home – right where it is needed most,” says Guna Caune, Executive Director of “RMHC Latvija”.

How to participate in the “McHappy Day” campaign?

Everyone can take part and help children in Latvia in several ways:

  • Donate €13 and receive the Mimi plush alpaca – a heartfelt gift that makes a difference
  • Round up your purchase in McDonald’s restaurants — for the first time in Latvia, guests can round their bill up to the nearest euro and donate the difference
  • In the McDonald’s mobile app, exchange 300 loyalty points for a medium portion of fries – €0.50 from each portion will be donated to “RMHC Latvija”
  • Donate online on the “RMHC Latvija” website: http://www.rmhc-latvia.lv

McDonald’s will also donate €0.05 from every Happy Meal sold towards the purchase of the new mobile clinic.

“We are deeply touched by the generosity of every donor! Last year, we raised more than €100,000, which helped provide 6,101 medical consultations for 4,782 children, including children from Ukraine who are currently living in Latvia. We believe that together, this autumn, we can achieve even more,” adds Guna Caune.
