Mobile Health Care Center: The Care Mobile
This unique program – the Care Mobile – has been working successfully in 32 countries. In Europe, such a facility was only in operation in Poland but in the autumn of 2010 it began its activities in Latvia.
With the Latvian Association of Local Governments, the Latvian Ministry of Health and in cooperation with the Latvian University Children’s Hospital, specialists have created a detailed action plan.
The Care Mobile aims to make medical services affordable for families with children in Latvia, and ensure regular medical examinations for primary care and early appointments with qualified specialist professionals. The Care Mobile will help to save financial resources by providing services closer to home.
Currently, many Latvian children living in rural areas have a lack of access to primary medical treatment. In addition to needing regular medical checks and immunizations, there is a risk that the diseases and conditions are not being diagnosed and treated early enough. With both acute and chronic diseases, the effects often carry on throughout a child’s entire life.
The Care Mobile is a 17 meter long, modern vehicle which is equipped to provide medical services. The Care Mobile has two patient examination rooms and a reception area. Patients can receive free-of-charge eye doctor, pediatrician, allergist, child neurologist, endocrinologist, cardiologist and gastroenterologist exams, and extensive educational programs for children are provided as well.
The Care Mobile program has the advantage of the ability to transform and expand the existing range of services, by offering specialist care, which takes into account the most urgent needs.
The Care Mobile professionals are the medical staff from the Children’s University Hospital.
